The 30th Annual Ruth Pauley Lecture Series Presents Nagasaki and Beyond: The Ethics of Collateral Damage by Susan Southard in Owens Auditorium.
Southard is the author of Nagasaki: Life After Nuclear War, which was just awarded the 2016 Dayton Literary Peace Prize, an international award for literature that promotes peace, social justice, and global understanding. It also received which the J. Anthony Lukas Book Prize administered jointly by the Columbia and Harvard Schools of Journalism. In addition, Nagasaki was named a Washington Post “Best Book of the Year” and the best history book of 2015 by Financial Times. It is based on 12 years of research, primarily oral history interviews with five nuclear survivors. Ms. Southard recently was invited to address the United Nations.
